Arkansas, Utah move to defund Planned Parenthood

Arkansas and Utah Governor’s joined other states calling for a complete defunding of Planned Parenthood following the release of the video footage showing officials discussing the organization’s fetal tissue program.

Governor Asa Hutchinson ordered his state department to cut the group’s Medicaid funding Friday, while Governor Gary Herbert ordered the state to stop acting as a go-between for federal Planned Parenthood funding.

The states join Louisiana, Alabama, and New Hampshire in attempting to defund the women’s health group. Wisconsin Governor Scott attempted to defund Planned Parenthood back in 2011. NC Values Coalition is calling on Governor McCrory to work with the state legislature to explicitly and permanently ban the sale or donation of the remains of unborn children, immediately defund Planned Parenthood and initiate investigations of all abortion providers to ensure no one in our state is profiting off the remains of aborted babies. The Health and Human Service documentation says that States can exclude providers from Medicaid funding if their engagement in certain criminal acts is proven, a provision that many leaders believe is the case with the recent videos of Planned Parenthood’s top medical personnel discussing the sale of aborted baby organs and body parts. This is the first time states are using this clause to cancel Planned Parenthood medicaid programs and days ago the Obama administration warned states that cutting off access to funding could be in violation of federal law.
